Independently and collaboratively conduct laboratory experiments, primarily in the C. elegans system, to publish papers and complete NIH-funded projects designed to understand the organismal, cellular, molecular, and genetic control of animal development and underlying cellular and biochemical processes. This position involves on-call status./ph3Essential Duties and Responsibilities:/h3ulliPerform standard designated procedures associated with experiments/projects; interpret and analyze results; multi-task experimentally as necessary, and present data in organized form./liliReview up-to-date scientific literature extracting information relevant to ongoing, proposed, or possible research projects./liliLearn, develop and utilize new techniques that facilitate research goals by consulting literature or other University personnel including faculty, students and research assistants./liliProvide written and oral progress reports to supervisor and research group./liliCarry out genetic manipulation in the C. elegans model system including conducting genetic crosses, transgenics requiring microinjections, and CRISPR/Cas9 methods./liliConduct phenotypic analyses of C. elegans at the organismal, cell biological, and molecular levels including the use of quantitative confocal microscopy, DNA recombinant engineering, biochemical methods including western blotting, protein purification, and protein interaction studies./liliWrite and organize manuscripts including the generation of professional figures in cooperation with the P.I./liliOnce proficient, the successful candidate may be responsible for working with and training other laboratory personnel, as needed./li/ulh3Supplemental Functions:/h3ulliAssist with ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, and keeping laboratory clean and organized./li/ulh3Competencies:/h3ulliAnalysis/Problem Identification/liliAttention to Detail and Accuracy/liliFormal Presentation Skills/liliQuality Orientation/liliWork Prioritization Management/liliWork as a Team Member/li/ulh3Minimum Qualifications:/h3pEducation: Bachelors degree in a field related to research project/ppExperience: 1 year of research experience working in an academic laboratory designing, carrying out, and interpreting experiments using molecular, genetic, and cell biological approaches./ph3Desired Qualifications:/h3ulliIn depth understanding of concepts in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry and cell biology./liliInterpret and analyze complex data including statistical and computational methods./liliIndependently identify, read, and digest primary literature relevant to the project./liliLearn new techniques rapidly to conduct precise reproducible experiments./liliMaintain detailed clear notes and records of experiments and protocols./li/ulh3Required Application Materials:/h3ulliComplete the online application./liliThe department additionally requests candidates upload the following document(s) for a complete application:/liulliCover letter/liliResume or C.V./liliContact information for four work-related references (references will only be contacted if you are selected as a finalist for the position)./li/ulliThis position will remain open until filled.
