Marketing & Business Development Intern

Location: Remote - Grand Rapids, MI

Compensation: $22.00 / hour

Description

RRS is seeking applications for an Intern to play a key support role in advancing company visibility, strengthening business development activities, and helping improve internal communication, coordination, and tracking processes.


This intern will support the execution of the RRS strategic marketing and business development plans through day-to-day execution of marketing and tracking activities, ensuring timely and strategic responses to inquiries, and exercising consistent administrative follow-through. This support will be overseen by senior BD staff providing mentorship and guidance, to support strategic work and operational processes, offering a valuable learning experience.


This role is ideal for an ambitious student or recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment. It is well-suited for someone with strong communication skills, organizational capacity, attention to detail, self-starting initiative, and interest in marketing and business development systems for a mission-based company. The intern will have opportunities to develop their skills and contribute meaningfully to the team's objectives.


Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Content Support
  • Contribute to the development of and execute marketing plans and campaigns.
  • Draft and edit content for social media, emails, web, and marketing collateral aligned with brand guidelines.
  • Assist with recurring content scheduling, posting, and analytics tracking across channels.
  • Help maintain accuracy and organization of resumes, qualifications, and marketing assets.
  • Provide overflow support for communications activities during busy periods.
Business Development & Proposal Coordination
  • Support proposal coordinators in the preparation of proposals, including formatting documents, collecting inputs, version control, and deadline tracking.
  • Coordinate pre- and post-conference activities including meeting planning to discuss strategy and outcomes and follow-up.
  • Help coordinate speaking, membership, or visibility opportunities.
  • Track deadlines such as early-bird rates, conference submissions, and BD milestones.
  • Support staff to update records and activities in Salesforce.
  • Help develop and track BD activity outcomes and metrics in Salesforce.
  • Support BD director in reporting BD activity and outcomes to the Board of Directors and Staff.
  • Support development of BD training for staff.
  • Support market research to inform BD strategic work plans and BD annual plan and budget.
CRM and Conference Support
  • Maintain BD calendars, engagement logs, CRM data (e.g., Salesforce), and related reporting.
  • Serve as a support for Salesforce BD-related questions.
  • Assist with list building for conferences, attendee research, and contact identification.
Key Qualifications
  • At least two years completed in a four-year program, or a two-year degree in marketing, communications, business, public relations, sustainability, or a related field.
  • Possess genuine curiosity and a drive for continuous learning.
  • Adaptable and able to grasp new concepts and apply them quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to draft clear, concise content.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management capabilities.
  • Detail-oriented self-starter able to prioritize shifting needs.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Salesforce or a similar CRM a plus.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams.
