Claims Counsel are attorneys who are responsible for investigating and handling claims to resolution. The Claims Counsel reports to the Claims Center Director or the Regional Claims Mgr. Essential functions include investigating, evaluating, determining loss and defense coverage liability and resolving claims; establishing settlement and expense reserves; determining need to retain outside counsel; managing claims and/or litigation through to final resolution; negotiating with claimant/opposing counsel/third parties for resolution; attending mediations and other required court appearances/processes; reviewing and approving invoices for costs and attorneys' fees; and performing/assisting initial evaluation for recovery.
Assignments are broad in nature, usually requiring originality and ingenuity. Operates with substantial latitude for un-reviewed action or decision and has ability to evaluate matters which may have a major bearing on the conduct of the organization's business. Works independently setting own priorities and objectives with supervisory consultation. Work reviewed for soundness of judgment and overall accuracy. Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of particular field of specialization to the completion of difficult assignments. Excellent communication, negotiation and organizational skills. Law degree required. Admitted to practice law in the US. Typically has 4+ years professional experience in title insurance/title underwriting and in depth knowledge on title insurance claims and resolution. Licensed to practice law in good standing.
The pay range for this role is $95,350.00 - $127,125.00. This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location.
