Job Summary Undergraduate Intern - Library Programming Assistant The Grand Prairie Public Library is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic part-time Undergraduate Intern to assist with library programming. The ideal candidate will be flexible around their school schedule and available to work a variety of days, nights, and weekends. The intern will play a vital role in anticipating the needs of the programming staff, ensuring smooth facilitation of events, and contributing to the positive atmosphere of the library.
Essential Job Functions - Assist in Program Facilitation:
- Engage with various age groups during library programs, including children, teens, and adults.
- Anticipate the needs of programming staff and assist with program facilitation.
- Quickly adapt and respond to unforeseen situations during programs.
- Set Up and Clean Up:
- Prepare and organize program supplies in advance.
- Set up tables, chairs, and equipment as needed for different types of programs.
- Ensure a clean and organized environment post-program.
- Flexibility:
- Work a flexible schedule to accommodate academic commitments, including evenings and weekends.
- Demonstrate adaptability in high-energy settings with varying attendance levels.
- Interact with Various Age Groups:
- Comfortably engage with babies, toddlers, elementary school students, teens, adults, and caregivers.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment for families attending library programs.
- Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with library staff to contribute to the success of programming initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure seamless coordination of tasks.
Minimum Qualifications - Current enrollment in an undergraduate program at an accredited university.
- Availability to work flexible hours as needed, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
- Previous experience working with children is highly preferred.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to anticipate and fulfill program needs.
- Ability to quickly adapt and respond to changing situations.
- Comfortable working in high-energy settings with a diverse audience.
For city employees who are regular part time (10-19 hours per week) or seasonal hired placed on City payroll, the following benefits are provided:
- - Public Agency Retirement System: the employee contributes 6.2% each paycheck to this retirement system and the city provides 1.3%. The employee does not pay into Social Security. All of the employees contributions may be withdrawn upon separating service from the city. The City's contributions will not be paid unless the employee retires under the system.
- Part time or seasonal employees are not eligible for any paid leave or other benefits.
- Part time or seasonal employees are limited to working only 1,000 hours per 12-month period, unless the seasonal is project based for a specific period of time which is typically less than 12-months.
