Job Description

This position involves a full-time role for a Special Education Teacher at the high school level, specializing in a self-contained setting. The classroom serves students aged 16 and older with intellectual disabilities, focusing on their preparation for alternative assessments and transition to the workforce.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver individualized instruction tailored to the unique needs of students with intellectual disabilities.
• Develop and implement educational plans that address academic and life skills.
• Prepare students for alternative assessments as part of their educational progress.
• Facilitate transition planning to support students movement toward work readiness and independence.
• Collaborate with support staff, families, and administration to foster a holistic learning environment.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.

Desired Qualifications:

• Valid Special Education teaching certification.
• Experience working with high school students, particularly those with intellectual disabilities.
• Knowledge of alternative assessments and transition planning.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage a self-contained classroom effectively.

Location: Midlothian, VA

Contract Duration: Non-school year (NSY) contract for the full academic year.
