Position Title: School Bus Attendant (2023-24SY)
Location: Plymouth Educational Center - 1460 E Forest Ave, Detroit, MI 48207
Reports To: Director of Campus Operations
Type: 0.5 | Regular Part Time
Start Date: April 2024

Position Description:

As a Distinctive Schools Bus Attendant, you will share a commitment to ensuring that every child is transported safely and receives support to ensure their full potential. The School Bus Attendant is responsible for helping to maintain order and control among the students onboard the bus. They will be responsible for making sure students are on the right bus, providing PPE to students that require it, assigning seats if necessary, diffusing disputes, documenting all incidents, and assisting with the loading and unloading of students at the stops.

• Assist with loading and unloading students at school and at bus stops

• Stepping off of the bus to make sure students are safe while boarding and exiting

• Assist in making sure students in grades K-3 are not left unattended at bus stops

• Maintaining all bus paperwork provided by the office

• Verifying students are on the correct bus

• Assigning and re-assigning seats as needed onboard the bus

• Ensuring students are remaining seated as required for their safety

• Keeping the aisle clear of obstructions

• Assisting with evacuations, drills, and emergencies as needed

• Attend regular training / safety meetings

• Completing incident reports and student referrals

• Working collaboratively with the Driver

• Checking the bus THOROUGHLY to ensure NO students are left after EVERY run, trip, or route (AM, MIDDAY, PM)

• Cleaning the bus interior (i.e sweeping, mopping, sanitizing) on a daily basis

Requirements:

• Experience working with school aged children is preferred, but not required

• Previous experience as a Bus Attendant / Aid is preferred, but not required
