*Public Works Senior Engineer*

Join Team Salisbury as a *Public Works Senior Engineer* in the Public Works Department. We’re seeking a motivated, experienced Professional Engineer (PE) to plan, organize, and oversee engineering, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure, including streets and stormwater systems. This role plays a vital part in shaping the city’s infrastructure while ensuring regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and long-term community planning.
*Main duties for this position include, but are not limited to:*
* Provide technical leadership for the planning, construction, and maintenance of street and stormwater systems in the city right-of-way.
* Prepare master plans, technical reports, and infrastructure recommendations to support long-term growth and capital planning.
* Oversee the full lifecycle of capital projects: design, permitting, bidding, construction management, and closeout.
* Review engineering plans for compliance with City standards, codes, and regulations.
* Conduct site inspections and identify needs for maintenance, upgrades, or repair.
* Supervise operations managers, ensuring effective training, safety, and service delivery.
* Manage multiple budgets and oversee purchasing of materials, equipment, and contract services.
* Provide technical support to contractors, developers, and other departments related to right-of-way extensions and design standards.
* Respond to citizen service requests, concerns, and complaints with professionalism and technical clarity.
* Represent the Public Works Department in cross-departmental meetings, technical review committees, and public discussions.
* Support emergency operations when needed, including mobilization of personnel and equipment.

· Ability to work effectively across teams and departments.
· Comfort in both office and field settings — including construction zones and active rights-of-way.
· Skilled in balancing long-term planning with day-to-day operations and service delivery.

*Minimum Requirements:*
· Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, engineering, construction, project management, or related field
· Considerable experience in infrastructure planning, engineering design, and supervision in public works, street maintenance, or stormwater management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
· Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
· Possession of valid North Carolina driver's license
· Strong knowledge of engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and project management best practices
· Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills
· Proficiency in engineering software tools including CADD and GIS
