Key Responsibilities:

As an Advanced Practice Provider in the NICU, you’ll demonstrate clinical expertise and leadership in the care of neonates, engaging in comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, and the development of evidence-based care plans. • Support emergency procedures and care transitions (inpatient, ambulatory, home health).

Coaching & Leadership:

  • Mentor staff and students through direct observation, teaching, and feedback.
  • Lead by example in patient advocacy, problem-solving, and adapting care delivery systems.
  • Develop educational resources and implement staff training initiatives.

Collaboration & Consultation:

  • Coordinate patient care by partnering with internal departments, community resources, and payers.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and case discussions.
  • Offer expert consultation to patients, families, and clinical colleagues.

Research & Quality Improvement:

  • Apply current research and evidence-based practice to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities for quality improvement and clinical innovation.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, such as presenting, publishing, or participating in research initiatives.

Ethical & Professional Practice:

  • Promote ethical decision-making in patient care.
  • Facilitate resolution of ethical dilemmas through interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Uphold patient rights and incorporate individual values into care planning.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (Neonatal specialty) or Physician Assistant in Virginia
  • Prescriptive authority (if applicable)
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Credentialed and eligible to practice as an Advanced Practice Provider in accordance with state regulations

Preferred:

  • Experience in an academic healthcare setting
  • Two or more years of NICU experience in an advanced practice or clinical leadership role
  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner certification or neonatal-focused training for PAs

Physical & Mental Requirements:
