Import Specialist, Air & Ocean

Location: Houston, TX

With an in-house customs brokerage team managing compliance, the operations team focuses on flawless execution of freight movements across industries including automotive, retail, energy, and industrial projects.

Position Overview:

The Import Specialist will be responsible for managing international air and ocean shipments from booking through final delivery. This is a full A–Z operational role, requiring strong attention to detail, carrier coordination, and customer service excellence. While customs knowledge is essential, formal entries are handled by the company’s brokerage team, allowing this position to focus on routing, scheduling, and execution.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the end-to-end coordination of import shipments by air and ocean, including booking, documentation review, routing, and delivery scheduling
• Liaise with carriers, overseas agents, and customers to ensure on-time performance and proactive issue resolution
• Prepare and manage shipping instructions, bills of lading, and arrival notices with accuracy
• Track and trace freight movements, maintaining visibility for internal teams and external customers
• Collaborate closely with the in-house customs brokerage team to ensure documentation and compliance requirements are met
• Deliver responsive customer service, providing updates, solutions, and professional support throughout the import process

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of freight forwarding import operations experience (air and/or ocean)
• Strong knowledge of A–Z routing, carrier coordination, and international shipping documentation
• Familiarity with U.S. import compliance processes; direct customs filing not required
• Proficiency with freight forwarding systems and Microsoft Office
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously
• Customer-focused mindset with clear communication skills
