Salary: $14 to $16 per hour

Job Overview

Kingwood Center Gardens Groundskeeper promotes positive transformative guest experiences, fostering the grounds and gardens and assists with the installation and maintenance of new garden areas. The Groundskeeper is responsible for fostering and installing lawns, edging, and fertilizing as well as mulching and assisting in garden areas as needed. This position plays a key role in the care of wildlife and maintenance of the Duck and Nature Ponds as well.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Carries out typical garden tasks such as planting, watering, weeding, pruning, and mulching.
• Operates necessary power equipment, such as mowers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, tillers, along with utility vehicles and tractors
• Utilizes garden tools to perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions
• Contributes to snow removal operations such as plowing, snow blowing, shoveling, salting, etc.
• Performs routine tree care including pruning, tree planting, removal, fertilization, and pest control
• Assists with fabrication and set up of seasonal show displays
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds routinely
• Must be able to work outside in extreme weather conditions year-round
• Bend or stoop for extended periods of time, walk various terrain and climb ladders
• Rapidly perform required tasks accurately
• Always working with gardening safety and best practices in mind
• Work independently while being productive and making efficient use of time
• Willingness to interact with the public in an informal way answering general questions
• Must be able to communicate clearly with staff and the public
• Ability to collaborate with persons of all ages, diverse backgrounds, skills, and abilities including staff, guests, and volunteers
• Monday through Friday schedule with some evenings and weekends required

Qualifications

• Knowledge of lawn care, plants, gardens, and gardening practices
• Three years of tree care, lawn care, park maintenance, gardening, or other related experience preferred
• Ohio Pesticide License or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire
• ISA Arborist certification a plus
• Other combinations of education/experience appropriate to the job will be considered
• Must have a valid Ohio Drivers License
• Must pass a background check
• Must pass drug test
