Description Position Title: Data Automation Specialist Individual Placement - AmeriCorps
Conservation Legacy Program: Conservation Corps North Carolina

Purpose: - The park is hiring two data management specialists, each supporting a distinct program area: (1) Lands, Realty, and Rights-of-Way and (2) Natural Resources. Together, these positions ensure the accuracy, accessibility, and long-term integrity of program data essential for decision-making, compliance, and operational planning. While each position is assigned to a specific discipline, both serve as core technical contributors to the park's broader data governance, analysis, and reporting capabilities.
Description of Duties: Data Collection and Management
- Maintain structured datasets and develop relational databases, specifically working with records related to real estate and land use permits, as well as natural and cultural resource data
- Design automated reporting tools
- Produce user-friendly dashboards that integrate information from multiple internal and external sources
- Assist with mapping and analysis in ArcGIS or other geospatial tools
Data Quality Control
- Document workflows
- Troubleshoot data inconsistencies
- Develop standardized procedures that strengthen information management across the park
- Research software solutions to improve efficiency/streamline data management.
Visitor Engagement and Partnerships
- Engage with visitors to share information on recreation regulations, opportunities, and safety.
- Support and coordinate with volunteers and partner groups involved in recreation or trail activities.
- Represent the National Park Service and CCNC professionally while maintaining a positive and helpful attitude.
Qualifications: - United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien
- At least 17 years of age
- Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of elementary or secondary school to enroll as an AmeriCorps participant, and agrees to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award
- Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.
- Data Accuracy & Quality Control - Ability to ensure precise and efficient entry, validation, and maintenance of structured datasets with attention to detail.
- Database Management & Design - Knowledge of relational database structures, normalization, and data integrity principles; ability to design and maintain basic databases. Willingness to learn basic GIS skills as needed.
- Spreadsheet Development & Automation - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, conditional formatting, macros) for structured reporting.
- Power BI Dashboard & Front-End Development - Ability to connect multiple data sources, design interactive dashboards, and develop user-friendly front-end reporting interfaces.
- Data Integration & ETL Processes - Experience extracting, cleaning, and transforming data from varied sources into consolidated systems for reporting and analysis.
- Process Documentation & SOP Development - Skilled at documenting workflows, database schemas, and reporting protocols; able to create clear guides and training materials.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills - Ability to identify data inconsistencies, troubleshoot errors, and recommend improvements for data workflows.
- Interest in conservation, public land stewardship, and outdoor recreation management.
- Valid driver's license; insurable for agency/CCNC vehicles.
- Strong communication skills and professional public contact.
- Self-motivated; able to work independently while following safety guidelines.
- Eligible for AmeriCorps service and able to pass required background checks.

Time Requirements: - Typically, this position is expected to serve Monday to Friday, but exact service schedules may vary. A half hour lunch break will not be counted towards AmeriCorps service
- Member may be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events as part of their service term.
Orientation and Training: - Member will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities
Benefits: - Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $7,395
- Living Allowance of $580 per week.

Evaluation and Reporting: As an AmeriCorps member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed the required number of hours, the member has satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.
Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
