Position Information Title: Assistant Professor of Forensic Sciences (Tenure Track) Department: School of Natural Sciences & Mathematics Full-Time Exempt Position Summary This position's responsibilities include teaching lecture and laboratory courses in Forensic Sciences to undergraduate/graduate students at Chaminade University. Assume other duties and university service as assigned by the Dean, within the scope of the Faculty Handbook. Participate in recruiting and service activities for the discipline and the university. Reporting Relationships This position reports to: the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences & Mathematics. Essential Duties and Responsibilities This position is expected to teach at least 21 faculty load hours per academic year and participate actively in academic program assessment. The successful candidate will also be responsible for instruction and educational and professional advising at the undergraduate/graduate level. The candidate will also provide guest lectures/seminars and advise student research projects as appropriate. This position is also expected to contribute to the oversight, maintenance, and development of laboratory and other facilities for forensic sciences. Required Qualifications Minimum Education & Experience Ph.D. in forensic sciences, biology, biochemistry, chemistry, environmental sciences, environmental studies, or a related field from an accredited college or university, Experience delivering undergraduate/graduate curricula in forensic sciences, Experience presenting scientific research at professional scientific meetings, and Desire to be a part of a collegial team that is genuinely interested in student success. Preferred Education & Experience Previous experience in a forensic laboratory or as a postdoctoral researcher. Experience serving as an expert consultant and/or witness. Expertise with advanced instrumentation and approaches used in a forensic laboratory (e.g. chromatography, molecular biological analysis, advanced photography, microscopy, soil and/or water analysis). Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Forensicscience and scientific skills are relevant to their area of expertise. As well as the ability to work with culturally and ethnically diverse students, facilitate a meaningful learning environment, with excellent interpersonal communication skills to the students, faculty, and staff. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, learning management systems (e.g. Canvas), and other programs related to teaching, learning, advising, and assessment Computer literacy with an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, learning management systems (e.g. Canvas), and other programs related to teaching, learning, advising, and assessment (e.g. Self Service, Stellic, Weave). Knowledge and experience using common office equipment such as copiers and scanners. Physical Requirements Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 10 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Other Requirements This is a full time, exempt position. Forty hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule. Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University.
